Membership

We do like the hats though

The club welcomes applications for membership, from experienced pilots who appreciate the time, effort, and expense required to maintain complex and high-performance aircraft in peak airworthy condition.

We love trainers, but we are not a flight school. If you want to rent a 172 for a few hours, or you’re just starting off with primary instruction, we will gladly refer you to our friends at Heritage Air, also based at KHWY.

Membership begins with a review of a few documents. While there is no greater joy than soaring into the sky, we take the rigor and discipline of aviation seriously, and expect the same of our members.

Before anything else, you probably have questions about costs and insurance, so we have a nice summary page about those topics available here. Please study it in detail. Club insurance for these sorts of aircraft is challenging (and expensive) so we cannot cut any corners. If you don’t meet the minimums for hours, but you’re close, we can make arrangements with a CFI who’s already a member to get you over the line.

Once you’re at peace with those details, please register for access to the club documents. There you can read our bylaws, understand the details of the club rules, and review our standard operating procedures. We use Flightcircle for all aircraft dispatch and management, and you’ll coordinate paying your dues and usage fees through Flightcircle as well.

If you need to talk to an actual human, please request a callback here, or simply come down to KHWY for a visit. As you enter the airport, you’ll arrive at a building on your right — we’re at the end furthest from the entry gate, and share the building with the Skyworld avionics department. Our formal street address is 5060 Airport Road, Midland, VA.
